My wife and I are not really dog people, but when we were pestered by our children to adopt a little border collie pup, we relented. Of course we had the usual promises that they would clean up after him, take him for walks and so on. This probably lasted two to three weeks at the most. The dog who we christened Sion because our other border collie was also called Sion, became my constant companion. He has been up most if not all of the higher mountains of Eryri and Cumbria. In those days I was pretty fit and regularly completed very long mountain days, but whatever I attempted the dog was up for it.
